We are thinking of going on a 2 week touring holiday of Scotland and just want some ideas of which places to visit. We enjoy a large variety of things such as tourist attractions, historical places and countryside, and would like to do a good mix of everything.

Hi Max, if you are only for a few weeks and want to get a variety of things packed in within your visit then the best trip for you would probably be the West Highland Way via Loch Lomond, and ending in Fort William. From there you can go onto the Islands, or head down to Edinburgh quite easily. :)

Hello Jane,

We are living close to Cambridge and are taking a road trip around Scotland.
We are mostly interest in the Castles and countryside. I had first planned to drive to Inverness and spend most of the time there, do you recommend planning more time in other areas.
Thanks so much and Good Luck with your site.

Hi Heather
Inverness is a great place to base your trip as it is a great launch pad for the Highlands. Be sure to visit the Islands too however. The Isle of Skye is the most beautiful part of Scotland in my opinion, and you can also drive there as there is a bridge connecting it to the mainland. On your drive up you could also visit some of the Scottish Borders too. North Berwick is a particularly beautiful little fishing village, and is not far from Edinburgh, Scotland’s most beautiful city in my opinion.
I hope you have a great road trip around Scotland!
Thanks
Jane

Hello Jane

This is our first trip to Edinburgh with our 6 yr old boy. We have 4 days in Edinburgh before taking train to Inverness to visit a friend. We are interested in historical places, tourist attractions and also plan to spend a night at Borthwick castle. What do they have in Inverness?

Hello Jane

This is our first trip to Edinburgh from the States. We are picking up a tour on a Monday with Rabies for the Isle of Skye..we have 1 day on that Sunday before…would you suggest us just do the bus tour or another tour. Also what sites should we make sure to see in Skye.

Kind Regards
Richard

Hi Jane,
We are 3 adults planning ten days in Scotland in September starting from Edinburugh. We plan to rent a car and discover the beauties of Scotland as much as possible. Can you suggest an itinerary and some good restaurants for home cooking! Since we come from Malta we’d love to share in the culture too.
Thanks for your guidance and keep up the excellent website.

I cannot wait to go to Scotland now! What is the number one thing that I cannot miss while I am here?

We are flying into Dublin for 12 days. I think that is too long to stay in Ireland. Do you think we could go by ferry to Scotland and on to Northern England without being too hurried. What high points and sights would you recommend?

Me and my grandmother are planning a trip to Scotland in the summer time. We want to see the best of: Castles, Harbors, Mountains, spots near Loch Lomond, & the Highlands. I’d also love to visit whatever place the photo at the top was taken! What places would you recommend for an indepentdent tour of Scotland?
